The Valencian television Apunt and the newspaper Levante echo this analysis that connects energy vulnerability with the health risks for the elderly in Valencia.
Our LOCS system, used within the framework of the ACTIVAGE project, continues to provide valuable data such as the study carried out on the energy poverty of our elderly. A study, carried out in collaboration with some of the partners of the European project such as Atenzia, Gesmed, Iniciativa Social Integral and the Chair of Energy Transition of the Universitat Politècnica de València-LasNaves.
An analysis that has shown the direct relationship between energy poverty among the elderly and the deterioration of their health.
How was this study carried out?
Using the sensors of our LOCS system, installed in the homes of around 500 people over the age of 65 living in Valencia, it has been possible to analyse the temperature, humidity and duration over time of these conditions. These indicators have been compared with information obtained from surveys and economic data. In this way it has been possible to identify the level of energy poverty of each person.
In order to alleviate this situation, the UPV-Las Naves Chair of Urban Energy Transition has produced a guide with optimised recommendations personalised for each user. In this way it is possible to promote comfort in the home, efficiency and energy saving. Information has also been provided on the public resources available to anyone in a situation of energy poverty, such as, for example, the Bono Social Energético or the Valencia Energy Office.
LOCS System | Advanced Daily Activity Monitoring Solution
Caring for our elderly and facilitating their maximum independence within active ageing is vital to provide quality of life and well-being. The LOCS solution creates a safe environment for people who live alone at home and, at the same time, eliminates the possible concerns that their family caregivers may have by having information about their condition and routines at all times. This information is in turn provided to care service providers to maintain direct communication in the event of an alert or risk to the user.
